The Road To Raqqa: Fighting Islamic State

first published on March 16, 2016 by

Sky News correspondent Alex Crawford tags along with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a diverse group of YPG/YPJ Kurds, moderate Sunni Muslims, and foreign fighters from various Western nations as they continue to successfully take ground and push the better-armed, fanatical Islamic State scourge back to their stronghold city of Raqqa in northern Syria.

The city of Raqqa fell to ISIS in August of 2014 and has become the de facto capital for the terror group in Syria. With the help of Western airstrikes and U.S. Special Operations advisors, the SDF is now within 20 miles of Raqqa and doing their best to cut supply lines from Turkey. It is unclear when the actual siege on the city will begin.
