The AC-130 gunship is one of the many aerial assets you do not want to find yourself on the receiving end of. While fixed-wing platforms like the A-10, F-16, F-18, and F-22 all bring deadly amounts of fire to a battle, and rotary-wing assets like the AH-64 Apache and AH-1 Cobra can stay almost stationary for long periods of time while they deal death to the enemy, none of these can even hold a candle to the AC-130. It’s ability to stay on a target and rain death for an extended duration of time is unmatched, making it one of the most terrifying platforms in existence.
In the video you are about to see, a platoon sized element of Taliban fighters somewhere in the mountains of Northern Afghanistan learn about the AC-130 in the field. While they thought that they were safely traversing a mountain pass under the cover of night, the AC-130 ruins their plans simply by spotting them. After several seconds of tracking the Taliban fighters, the crew of the aircraft get confirmation from higher that they are cleared to engage their targets. Within minutes they turn the entire platoon of Taliban fighters into people-paste before they can even register where they are being engaged from.
