Marines with India Company, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division attached to Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force, Crisis Response-Central Command were recently tasked with supporting Operation Talon Spear. Talon Spear is an on-going mission to establish and support fire base Um Jorais. Also as part of this operation, members of the United States Army and Iraqi Army conduct indirect fire supports for the conventional Iraqi Military and Syrian Democratic Forces while they continue to advance and defeat the small remaining pockets of Islamic State fighters located in both Iraq and Syria.

Marines were tasked with this mission in support of Operation Inherent Resolve because they were currently the best and most prepared conventional infantry unit in the area of operations able to respond to the mission tasking and requirements set into place by Operation Inherent Resolve. India Company was required to conduct an air assault into the location of the fire base, and immediately move into the priorities of work required when preparing a defensive position for follow on operations.
