American troops conducting a patrol near Qamishli, Syria, encountered a checkpoint manned by “pro-Syrian regime forces” at which point a confrontation ensued.
According to an Operation Inherent Resolve spokesman, the American patrol came under small arms fire from unknown individuals and returned fire in self defense.

Videos reportedly from the event, combined and embedded below, show a confrontational standoff between the coalition troops and the regime forces manning the checkpoint. The pro-Syrian militants refuse to let the US patrol pass.
The video then cuts to a scene in which militants spray wildly at the American vehicles while children and other civilians are standing in the direction of fire. The militants can be seen firing from within a few meters of Russian military police vehicles to ensure that the Americans don’t return fire.
