The air defense system was likely attempting to intercept Israeli airstrikes which have been targeting Iranian military targets in Syria. It’s not clear from the footage what system was in use. The Syrians employ an array of air defense systems including; S-300, SA-22, SA-3, S-200, and the BUK Missile System.

Israel has reportedly struck 28 Iranian Quds Force and Syrian Arab Army targets on Tuesday night in Syria, resulting in 23 deaths.

“We will not let Iran entrench in Syria,” said IDF Spokesman Brig.-Gen. Hidai Zilberman while stating that the IDF “is prepared to respond harshly to further attacks if necessary. We will not accept an Iranian force near our borders, and will continue to work against it.”
