With the death toll now over 300 in the Sri Lankan Easter Sunday terror attack, new information is coming to light, reinforcing what we had already assumed.
The Islamic State released multiple statements and a video that not only take credit for the attacks, but apparently show the perpetrators swearing allegiance to top ISIS cleric Abu Bakr al Baghdadi.
At least seven suicide bombers detonated high explosive devices in Catholic places of worship and multiple hotels. The obvious intent was to target Christians on a main holy day. Additional undetonated bombs were found by authorities and reduced.
The attack shows considerable planning and complex execution, further supporting the Islamic State involvement theory. Local authorities reportedly received multiple warnings from “foreign intelligence” entities of impending terror attacks leading up to the Easter massacre, but those with that knowledge failed to act appropriately.
