Special Forces Of India: PARAS, MARCOS, and GARUDS

first published on April 8, 2018 by

Like many other nations, India has special forces units with different areas of expertise for each branch of their military.

The PARAS represent the Indian Army, the MARCOS belong to the navy and the GARUDS are the operators of the air force.

As the name suggests, PARAS specialize in airborne (parachute) operations. The navy’s MARCOS are also airborne qualified, but their emphasis of operations focuses on amphibious missions.

While those are the main SOF groups of India, there are other special units such as: the Black Cats, COBRA, Ghataks, Special Frontier Force, and Force One.
