Slow-motion Vietnam airstrike video shows U.S. aircraft dropping both napalm and white phosphorous munitions in river delta lowlands. The imagery is beautiful in the most morbid sense.
Due to the dense jungle canopy that made conventional munitions unable to penetrate to the ground, the American military had to adapt and adopt other means. The napalm and WP would detonate in the canopy but would permeate to the forest floor with a fiery ball of death. Other macabre innovations included flechette rockets, which would throw thousands of nails toward anything in its path, as well as the notorious “Agent Orange” defoliant, whose cancer and birth defect causing abilities were even passed on to the offspring of American troops and Vietnamese many years later.
