In a now-deleted infographic, Saudi state media alluded to a 9-11 style airline attack on Toronto, while at the same time the Saudi government was placing a laughable set of sanctions on Canada.
The infographic shows a subdued Toronto skyline with a highlighted Air Canada passenger jet speeding toward the Canadian National Tower. The accompanying caption reads:
Sticking one’s nose where it doesn’t belong! As the Arabic saying goes: “He who interferes with what doesn’t concern him finds what doesn’t please him.”
The angry tweet and the sanctions are in response to the Canadian Foreign Minister’s request that Saudi Arabia immediately release Samar Badawai, a jailed Saudi Arabian-American female human rights activist as well as many other imprisoned women’s rights organizers.
For those of you just crawling out from under your rocks, Saudi Arabia has a horrendous human rights record with an emphasis on violence and legitimate oppression toward women. The Saudi government is a theocracy which created and continues to observe and enforce the very strict Wahhabi interpretation of Islam, which is the same Sharia-driven ideology that fuels hardline Islamist groups like al Qaeda, ISIS, and Boko Haram.
The Saudi sanctions against Canada are being called a joke and will likely only negatively impact themselves, as it only reenforces the idea that Saudi Arabia is led by irrational stone-age psychopaths.
Included among the sanction stipulations is the immediate suspension of all Saudi airline flights to Canada, which honestly, should make Canadians sleep better tonight knowing that planes full of Saudis are not flying at or anywhere near their country, considering fifteen of the nineteen September 11, 2001 hijackers were Saudi Arabian.
