Russian Soldier’s Death Filmed During Rebel Attack!?

The following video shows Islamist rebels using a Kornet anti tank guided missile to target a large gathering of pro Assad personnel on a rooftop in Aleppo, Syria. The Sham Legion rebel group goes on to claim that the targets were Russian troops emplacing electronic counter measure devices and that they inflicted many casualties, including the death of Russian artilleryman Nikita Shevchenko.

Russian press releases denied the claims, saying Shevchenko was killed by an IED while conducting convoy security for a humanitarian mission, which is likely to be a false narrative considering it is the Marines that are filling that role. At the same time, Russia also announced the suicide of another soldier due to emotional stress. Much like in eastern Ukraine, Russia has no problems denying, downplaying, or wrongly attributing troops’ deaths to other causes.

Yet, the idea of an artilleryman emplacing electronic counter measure devices doesn’t really add up either. Shevchenko may have been killed in an ATGM strike, but in a different attack all together. On July 17, Sham Legion posted a video of a guided missile strike on a Russian 9K57 Uragaan mobile rocket artillery unit, resulting in an absolutely massive blast, which undoubtedly would have killed anyone on or near the vehicle. While nothing can be confirmed based of either group’s statements or the video footage. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume that Nikita Shevchenko may have been killed in the following missile strike on a Russian MLRS.
