Russia is consolidating troops as they prepare to hold their largest military exercise since the Soviet war games in 1981.
China and Mongolia will also be taking part in the five day drill that is slated for next month. China has already begun staging warplanes at a Russian air base in the Ural Mountains. The exercises will broadly focus on interoperability between army, navy, and air force commands and take place in the far eastern portion of the country and Siberia.
The war games have been dubbed “Vostok (East) 2018” and is operating under a Chinese-Russian pact known as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which was formed as a direct deterrent to American military influence across the world.
