The Russian Defense Ministry released footage this week showing Kh-35U anti ship missiles successfully engaging watercraft.
An Su-34 fired eight of the missiles at the target vessel. They claimed all munitions hit their target, and additionally claimed that the Kh-35U missile is capable of evading any naval countermeasure and has a range of over 250 miles.
Is it a coincidence that the Russians would release the footage at the same time the United States Coast Guard is transferring two armed 110-foot ships to the Ukrainian government? Probably not.
The Island-class cutters will be deployed to the Sea of Azov to mitigate Russian harassment of commercial vessels.
“Russia has delayed hundreds of commercial vessels since April and in recent weeks has stopped at least 16 commercial ships attempting to reach Ukrainian ports,” State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said last month.
