Republic of Korea Navy Special Warfare Flotilla, also known as ROK Navy SEALs, assault, board, and secure a cargo ship from Somali Pirates in the Persian Gulf in 2011. A team of 15 SWF troops boarded the freighter, killing eight pirates and capturing the other five, while taking no casualties themselves. All 21 hostages of the ship’s crew were rescued.
Heavily influenced by the United States Navy SEALs, the elite ROK troops are able to expertly perform special reconnaissance, information operations, direct action raids, assassinations, hostage rescue, counter-terrorism/anti-pircacy operations, and underwater demolitions.
