Members of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) defend a poorly dug in fighting position against a large Ukrainian Army attack.

The Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) is a separatist faction currently fighting in the conflict in Ukraine. The organization was formally banned by the government of Ukraine in 2007. In 2014 the group sparked back up and was led by retired Russian Colonel Igor “Strelkov” Girkin.

They are receiving military and humanitarian aid from the Russian government, and are recognized as a terrorist group by the Ukrainian government. DPR is most notoriously famous for their gross human rights violations during the attack on Donetsk Airport, where they tortured and executed a number of captured Ukrainian service members.
