Operation Jaws: Marines Take Out The Trash In Kajaki

Marines from 2nd Battalion 5th Marines clear out the Taliban stronghold of Kajaki, Afghanistan in a 15 day gunfight.

June 1, 2012 Marines from 2nd Battalion 5th Marines entered Kajaki, Afghanistan. Over the course of 15 days, they fought entrenched Taliban fighters in 120 degree heat. The purpose of the operation was to interdict the Taliban supply chain, and eliminate key enemy leaders.


At the conclusion of the 15 day gunfight, 2nd Battalion 5th Marines had killed at least 50 Taliban fighters and destroyed a number of their fighting positions. They sustained zero friendly casualties, and no civilians injuries were reported during the entire operation.
