On 4 December 2013, less than a hundred Marines from Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 9th Marines launched Operation Apache Snow II in Nad Ali District, Helmand Province. The mission was to disrupt Taliban movement and supply operations.
The following video has interviews with the Platoon Leader and a Squad Leader. During the 14 hour operation, Marines engaged in a four hour firefight, and at least one friendly was wounded.
The name Apache Snow is in reference to a 1969 Army and Marine operation in the A Shau Valley of Vietnam. The intent was to disrupt supply lines to enemy forces and ended in the taking of Hill 937, which became known as “Hamburger Hill.”
