A California-based Naval Special Warfare SEAL is currently locked up in the brig while an investigation is underway to determine what role he played in the execution of a detainee with a blade in Iraq.
“A service member currently assigned to a Naval Special Warfare unit is under investigation by NCIS for professional misconduct while deployed to Iraq in 2017. We take all allegations of misconduct seriously and will cooperate fully with investigative authorities,” a Naval Special Warfare spokeswoman told the Navy Times.
The chief special warfare operator has not yet been charged with a crime, and therefore will remain anonymous pending the conclusion of the investigation. However, his detention at the Naval Consolidated Brig Miramar indicates that there was at least significant probable cause and evidence to try him in military courts.
