The U.S. Navy accepted delivery of the USS Zumwalt DDG 1000 stealth destroyer, which is said to be the most advanced warship ever built. The ship is the result of 20 years of research and development.
The guided missile destroyer extends a mighty 600 feet in length, but only gives off the radar signature of a 50 foot fishing boat. In addition to fulfilling the standard destroyer roles of anti-air, anti-surface and undersea warfare… the ship will also specialize in supporting ground forces in land combat.
The Zumwalt may be a rookie in the Navy, but she has already seen action. During sea trials in December 2015, the destroyer responded to a distress call, and the crew was able to rescue a fishing boat captain succumbing to a medical emergency.
