A US Army mortar team initiates contact with a large force of Taliban fighters by dropping 60mm rounds on top of them.
When you initiate contact, it’s best to inflict as much damage to the enemy as you possibly can. Your objective is to cause shock and confusion, which in turn makes it next to impossible for the enemy to regain any initiative. During this time frame, your objective is to cause as much damage as possible. Often your enemy will be caught flat footed, and unprepared. This is the perfect opportunity to decimate him.
This is exactly what we see happening in this video. A 60mm mortar crew utilizes their weapon system in the handheld mode, and they quickly adjust rounds on an unsuspecting target. The rounds we hear incoming after the initial rounds are dropped, are from a confused enemy still trying to figure out what’s going on.
