In the first test of its kind, the Missile Defense Agency’s Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) system successfully tracked, intercepted, and destroyed a mock target intercontinental ballistic missile on Tuesday, May 30, 2017.
The ICBM test target was launched from the Kwajalein Atoll of the Marshall Islands, halfway in between Hawaii and Australia. The interceptor missile was launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.
Although Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Alabama), chairman of the House Armed Services strategic forces subcommittee, made mention of the missile being a deterrent to North Korea’s increasingly volatile actions… China and Russia should take heed as well.
