Libyan National Army (LNA) MiG-21 was purportedly shot down by the Government of National Accord (GNA) over Tripoli according to multiple outlets. Alleged cell phone footage of the incident has since popped up across social media.
An aged MiG-21 “Fishbed” was purportedly shot down over Libya amidst the recent violence that has broken out over the coastal city of Tripoli between the LNA and the UN-backed GNA forces. The GNA has claimed responsibility for the downing of the aircraft while the LNA has claimed it was due to “technical failure” during flight operations. The incident occurred while the LNA’s leader, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, was in Egypt meeting with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
