Helmet cam footage shows a Maltese Special Operations team boarding an oil tanker that had been hijacked by refugees in the Mediterranean Sea last week.
The oil tanker crew was notified that approximately a hundred stranded refugees were adrift nearby and were at risk of perishing. The crew selflessly rescued the refugees and continued on their way.
Once the migrants were told they would be returned to Libya and not taken to Europe, they began to riot. At that point, three teenagers overpowered the crew and hijacked the ship.
The Captain of Motor Tanker ELHIBLU 1 repeatedly made distress calls, stating that he was not in control of the vessel and that he and his crew were being forced and threatened by the migrants to proceed to Malta.
The Maltese armed forces responded with patrol vessels, fast interceptor craft, a helicopter, and of course a special operations boarding team that quickly quelled the mutiny and arrested the main suspects in the hijacking.
