Although he needs no introduction, Marcus Luttrell is the Navy SEAL depicted in the blockbuster “Lone Survivor.”
The movie itself is cheesy as hell, but this analysis delivered in Luttrell’s own words to supplement the Hollywood clips is pretty powerful.
The star-crossed Operation Red Wing in 2005 was attempted by the Navy SEALs to capture or kill a high-ranking Taliban leader. Including Luttrell, the kill team consisted of four SEALs.
As told by Luttrell in the video, all three of his buddies were killed in the fighting. An additional 16 military personnel were killed trying to rescue the SEALs when their
chinook was shot down by a Taliban RPG.
Luttrell was able to evade capture by dragging his crippled self over seven miles. He wasn’t rescued by American forces until six days after the battle.
For his actions he was awarded the Navy Cross. He is so badass that he went on to complete another tour after he was healed.
