Last night at 10:08 p.m., reports started coming in to the Las Vegas Police Department that there was an active shooter at a huge outdoor country music festival. The shooter, now identified as Stephen Paddock, 64, fired into the crowd with what appeared to be an automatic rifle from his 32nd floor room at the Mandalay Bay hotel. Shortly before midnight, the suspect was confirmed dead.
During the attack, 50 people were killed, and another 406 were taken to the hospital with injuries according to the Las Vegas Police. These numbers have been changing throughout the morning, and we will continue to update this post if there are any more changes.
It is believed that the shooter killed himself as multiple Special Weapons and Tactics teams arrived at the hotel to end his attack. A motive for the shooting is currently not known, but the 64-year-old resident was known to police. “As far as his history and background, we haven’t completed that part of the investigation yet,” Sheriff Lombardo said of the suspect. “But we located numerous firearms within the room that he occupied.”
This story is still developing, and we will continue to post updates as they are released.
According to ABC News, the death toll from this deadly attack is now at 58. (12:30 pm EST)
