Stand up, head forward, shoulder through. Make something of yourself.
You are the only person in your life that is in control of your actions. Sometimes life will punch you in the gut, and the world will watch you fall. There isn’t anything that can be done about it. The decision lies within you on how you react to the contact. Will you stand back up, and take the hill, or will you lay down and admit defeat to yourself?
I had a very close friend of mine contact me the other night severely confused about his life. This particular friend of mine is the reason I am able to type this to you today. I won’t get into the details, but needless to say he was there when a bunch of us were lost, in a field full of bombs. He reached out to me via text message with a pretty troubled message: “Do you ever feel like you should have died in Afghanistan?”
This is a text we have probably all gotten at least once from a brother in need. I’m glad though, that in his moment of weakness, he reached out to me. I don’t know exactly what is going on in his life, but if he reads this, he should know that he’s to good for that kind of talk. You all, every last one of you, are to good for that talk. Take life by the horns and tackle the objective in front of you, you’ve been through worse.
You are the main effort in your life now. As an individual you have to take every action possible to become a successful, functioning member of society. I don’t care if you went from being a platoon commander to managing a McDonald’s. The ball is sitting in your court now, and it’s up to you to make the changes you need. There is always a way, and it’s up to you to find it.
