Kurdish CT and US Special Operations Command troops conducted a series of joint raids in an undisclosed location which resulted in the arrest of several ISIS financiers and facilitators and the recovery of large sums of illicit cash.
The raids reportedly took place on Oct. 6, 2018, and in addition to the cash, a trove of intelligence material was gathered as well in the form of passports, mobile devices, and data files.
The arrests are expected to put a significant dent in Islamic State operations within the Kurdistan region. The intelligence gathered will, or already has, lead to follow-on raids and arrests of other key insurgents in the terror network.
The US Spec Ops direct action involvement in Iraq and Syria (post OIF) was first announced back in 2015 by then Defense Secretary Aston Carter.
