ISIS launched a brief offensive last night against the largest Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve base in Syria and were repelled by SDF/YPG forces and Western airstrikes after a several hour battle.
The site of the attack is the al Omar Oilfield, the largest oilfield in Syria, which is located in Deir ez Zor Province. The Coalition base sits astride the oilfield and is occupied by both French and American troops.
Based on the reports, a group of at least 20 Islamic State infiltrators targeted the barracks that houses both French and American troops late last night. The battle lasted until this morning when the remaining insurgents were isolated and destroyed by precision airstrikes.
The following video, reportedly filmed by a YPG/SDF fighter, is said to show the resolution of the battle as multiple airstrikes hammer ISIS positions.
