A recently released video from the Kurdish HPG group shows an insane raid on a Turkish outpost in northern Iraq that reportedly resulted in eight Turkish KIA.
The assault reportedly took place on October 22, 2018 on Hill Lelikan in the Sidekan region. The HPG claims to have killed a Turkish lieutenant in the fight.
From the video we can see that the Kurdish guerrillas are able to sneak within touching distance of the Turkish military perimeter. They initiate the engagement with multiple hand grenades.
The Turkish soldiers are caught off guard and go scrambling for their weapons as the infiltrators shoot them at near point blank range with small arms.
The attackers are only there to conduct a quick hit and run attack, and not get get locked into a sustained engagement. They quickly loot the outpost, seizing a Turkish produced MPT-76 infantry rifle as well as a Russian-made light machine gun. A thermal optic and what appears to be a media device is pilfered as well.
The guerrillas make a hasty withdrawal before Turkish artillery or air support arrives.
The HPG is the militant arm of the PKK, a Kurdish separatist political party originating in southern Turkey. The fighting between Turkey and the HPG has spilled over the Turkish border and fights like these are taking place in Iraq and Syria regularly.
