Hunting Down Jihadists in the Malian Desert with French Army

first published on April 13, 2016 by

Varying reports indicate that at as many as three French troops have just been killed by al Qaeda terrorists in the Malian desert after the lead vehicle of a French military convoy struck a landmine near the northern town of Tessalit.

Only around 3,000 French troops are currently deployed to cover multiple countries in the Sahel region of Africa, and the indigenous forces they use to bolster their numbers are less than exceptional, to say the least. Much of northern Africa seems to be collapsing into the hands of Islamic extremists, however, the territory patrolled by French forces has seen a reduction in terror activity.
