Awesome high-definition footage of Marine UH-1Y “Huey’s” conducting close air support battle drills in Yuma, Arizona. The Marine pilots and crews hone their combat skills during a recent seven-week training event.

Pilots and crews with Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1), conduct close air support training is a stunning high definition video recently released by the Department of Defense. The impressive video mashup highlights the capabilities of the aircraft and its crews.

Releasing a statement with the video the DoD said, “UH-1Ys with Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One conducted close air support battle drills as part of Weapons and tactics Instructor Course 2-18 in Yuma, Ariz., March 13.”

“WTI is a seven-week training event hosted by MAWTS-1 cadre, which emphasizes operational integration of the six functions of Marine Corps aviation in support of a Marine Air Ground Task Force and provides standardized advanced tactical training and certification of unit instructor qualifications to support Marine Aviation Training and Readiness and assists in developing and employing aviation weapons and tactics.”

The video demonstrates this critical training and development with brilliant high-def clarity – taking the viewers inside the aircraft as they fly, maneuver, and destroy targets in the desolate Arizona desert.

With a lineage of nearly a half-century, the Bell UH-1Y Venom, AKA “Super Huey” is the latest incarnation of a venerable US military icon. Hosting the latest avionics, weapons, and airframe technologies, the UH-1Y is set to be a staple of the Marine Corp’s Air Ground Task Force for generations to come.
