Members of the new coalition formed by Jabhat al-Nusra, titled Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, slaughter retreating Syrian troops as the group advances on Western Aleppo. The entire engagement is recorded by a number of drones, and cameramen on the ground, and it absolutely brutal. Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham is the new organization built by Jabhat al-Nusra in an attempt to get their name off of the affiliate list of Al-Qaeda. The name, roughly translated means Organization for the Liberation of the Levant, and it is currently led by Jabhat Fatah al-Sham and former Ahrar al-Sham leaders. The organization is a merging of multiple groups, all with extremist ties, and still operates under many of the same ideologies of the al-Qaeda parent group.
It is suspected that, while not directly working with al-Qaeda, the group is still covertly receiving funding from it and operating in order to meet the same objectives as the original group. The flag of the organization can be found in the image below.
