Approximately 25,000 email accounts and passwords belonging to the Gates Foundation, World Health Organization, and the National Institute of Health have been hacked and doxed by an unknown entity.
These organizations are at the forefront of the COVID-19 pandemic, and have received a lot of scrutiny for their various stances and handling of the situation.
Although the perpetrators of the cyber attack are not known, the main stream media has wasted no time in politicizing and insinuating that “right wing” groups may be to blame, based on certain entities consuming the information.
The sensitive information was dumped on 4chan, Pastebin, Twitter and Telegram. Cyber security experts have confirmed the authenticity of the login credentials. However, it is believed that the doxing poses a limited threat as most of these organizations should have dual authentication protocols in place.
Reports also indicate that the Wuhan Virology Lab, where the novel coronavirus is believed to have originated, was also hacked and doxed. The implications of that hack against the Chinese lab isn’t clear at this time.
