A news report out of Burkina Faso shows French special forces troops defending the French embassy from a terrorist attack on 2 March 2018.
Twin attacks carried out by the al Qaeda affiliated terror group Jama Nusrat Ul-Islam wa Al-Musliminin in the north African city of Ouagadougou left at least 13 people dead and dozens more wounded.
The two attacks targeted a local army base as well as the French embassy. The raid on the military base resulted in the deaths of five soldiers, while more than 60 other troops were wounded. Two paramilitary policemen were also killed while defending the base.
Four of the attackers were killed at the army base, and another four were killed at the French embassy. No French nationals were killed in either of the attacks. Reports indicate that two of the terrorists were captured for interrogation.
The attackers reportedly wore Burkina Faso military uniforms in an attempt to get into the base undetected. One of the assailants killed was a former soldier himself who was fired in 2011. Those who attacked the French embassy attempted to ram through the gate using a van.
In the following video, French special forces can be seen inserting troops into the fight using a helicopter and then also taking up positions behind armored vehicles as they close with the enemy fighters. A squad of French operators with a working dog are recorded approaching a building as gunshots ring out.
