Two French special forces soldiers were killed last night in a daring raid to rescue hostages in western Africa’s nation of Burkina Faso.
The operation was successful in freeing the hostages, two of which were French men, one American woman, and one Korean woman. The two French hostages were tourists on a safari in neighboring Benin when they were kidnapped by Islamists in May 1, 2019.
The fallen French operators have been identified as Cedric de Pierrepont and Alain Bertoncello.
A statement from French president Macron said he “bows with emotion and gravity before the sacrifice of these two servicemen, who gave their lives to save those of our citizens.”
