Five soldiers are confirmed dead and another four are still missing after a Light Medium Tactical Vehicle (LMTV) rolled over at a water-crossing on Fort Hood yesterday. Search and rescue operations were still ongoing as of this morning.

All soldiers were from 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division. Three bodies were initially recovered downstream, and then, two more were confirmed dead in the evening. Three other soldiers were rescued from the flood waters, and are in stable condition.

Massive flooding in Texas has created unsafe driving conditions across the state. Many of the roads on post were already closed due to flooding, but this specific one was kept open because it was considered “not prone to flooding.”
