This ambush took place on the Simitarra River in close proximity to the Venezuelan border. Those in the boats were weapons smugglers, supporting the FARC guerillas. The government troops had multiple firing locations for maximum kill potential with intersecting lanes of fire. While some may say there was an unnecessary volume of fire… nobody wants to carry a full combat load back to base. It may have even been close to the fiscal new year. Use it or lose it, folks.
