The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) has just been deployed to the Middle East for the first time and will begin carrying out strikes against the Taliban in Afghanistan, the Islamic State in Syria, and likely many other areas of operation.
F-35A Lightning IIs from the 388th Fighter Wing as well as the 419th Fighter Wing are now operating out of Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). They are replacing the airpower of B-1 Lancer bombers that just finished their own deployment to Qatar.
“The F-35A provides our nation air dominance in any threat,” said Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Dave Goldfein. “When it comes to having a quarterback for the coalition joint force, the inter-operable F-35A is clearly the aircraft for the leadership role.”
The following video shows all three F-35 variants in action.
