A video reportedly out of Yemen shows a pro-Saudi dismounted patrol get wiped out by a massive improvised explosive booby trap.
The incident reportedly took place on Nov. 13, 2018 near the Red Sea port city of Hodeidah. The original uploader describes the target platoon as invaders and mercenaries, which may mean that they are not actual Saudi troops.
At first glance, the blast looks linear in nature, possibly indicating multiple IEDs “daisy chained” together or even a buried mine clearing line charge (MCLC). However, after the smoke dissipates, a lone, massive crater can be seen, indicating a large single point device. The linear look of the blast was likely the result of the gasses traveling the path of least resistance, contouring along the compound walls.
Predictability was the downfall of the dismounted platoon. This booby trap wasn’t planted there at random. They likely used this route everyday, or at least multiple times a week. The enemy is always watching, learning habits, patterns, and weaknesses. Complacency kills.
