The Russian Ministry of Defense has released a FLIR clip showing one of their SOF teams that is fully encircled by Al-Nusra fighters.

Recent flir footage released by the Russian Ministry of Defense shows what is supposed to be a group of Al-Nusra fighters near Hama being dominated by a Russian SOF team. According to the rumors being spread online, this is just a small clip of an hours long firefight where Russian troops were surrounded by over 1,000 Al-Nusra fighters. The rest of that footage has not been released at this time, and no English main-stream media reports can be found at this time.

The group on the ground was supported by two SU-25 attack planes, and were able to break out of the onslaught by pinpointing a weakness in the attack and punching through. Allegedly, the Al-Nusra fighters lost upwards of 850 men, 11 tanks, 4 infantry fighting vehicles, and 50 pickup trucks, but we cannot independently verify that as fact at this time. We will continue to update this post as information becomes available, and we will certainly be posting more footage from this fight as it emerges.
