There is an old saying that goes, “If it’s stupid but it works, it isn’t stupid.” In Syria, this is a saying that members of the Free Syrian Army have been stretching to it’s absolute limit with some of the craziest improvised weapon systems we have ever seen.
Over the past few years, we have seen the rebels within the Free Syrian Army use everything from TOW missiles and homemade sniper rifles, to trebuchets and legit pirate cannons from the 16th century. Today, we get to see them unveil their latest and greatest piece of equipment which still has no name.
Shaped like a cannon, the device is used by aiming the barrel in the general direction of the target in either a supported or unsupported manner. A fuse is lit at the back of the device, and the area is cleared as no one is really sure what is going to happen when the device finally fires. At the point of ignition, the device is sent flying in the opposite direction of whatever the load is.
We’ve seen some truly weird stuff come out of Syria, but this is by far the worst improvised weapon system we have seen to date.
