A section of Iraqi Mi-28 Night Hunters eliminate ISIS positions in Ramadi, Iraq.
Iraqi Aviation is putting in some strong work over Ramadi, Iraq. This pair of Iraqi Mi-28 Night Hunters is shown effectively using their 30mm auto-cannons, and rockets to eliminate ISIS positions in support of ground operations. Note: This video has no sound.
In October of 2012, the Iraqi government purchased 30 Mi-28 Night Hunters from Russia. These aircraft have been used extensively by Iraq in the fight against ISIS. In this video we get a first hand look at how deadly, and effective this Russian-born equipment is.
These aircraft were purchased in a 4.2 billion dollar deal between Russia, and the government of Iraq. The purpose of the deal was to supply the government of Iraq with 30 Mi-28 attack helicopters, and 50 Pantsir-S1 surface-to-air missile systems. This arms deal made Russia the second largest supplier of military grade equipment to Iraq, after the United States.
These aircraft have been instrumental in the success of multiple ground attacks against ISIS. It’s funny to think that Iraq almost didn’t complete this deal with Russia. When the agreement was being made, Iraq had backpedal due to corruption within their government. After some deliberation, the Iraqi government was able to regain control, and push the arms deal with Russia through.
