The Danish Armed Forces have launched a recruiting campaign to target gamers to become air traffic controllers, pilots, and radar operators.
A Danish Ministry of Defense representative, Anders Bech said, “Gamers have certain skills in being and remaining calm under pressure, faster reactions than other young people, quick decision making, good teamwork skills, orientation and strong ability to visualise. These are all abilities which we could use.”
Apparently, the military conducted tests and came to the conclusion that gamers had faster reaction times and kept more cool under pressure when compared to their non-gaming peers.
It remains to be seen if these gamers have the ability and attitude to deal with authority, or if they can achieve and maintain the physical standards necessary to perform well across the the rest of the military’s expectations and standards.
