A video showing a “Daesh infested island” getting carpet bombed was released by Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve, and it is awe-inspiring.
According to reports, the US Air Force F-15 Strike Eagles and F-35 Lightning II aircraft dropped 80,000 pounds of bombs on Qanus Island in Iraq’s Salah al-Din province, which was being used as a transit hub for ISIS fighters moving between the Jazeera desert into the Mosul region.
According to an article on Independant, the bombing raid was followed by an Iraqi Army ground operation who conducted a battle damage assessment and dealt with any survivors and collected remaining intelligence.
“We’re denying Daesh the ability to hide on Qanus Island,” said Major General Eric T Hill, Commanding General of Special Operations Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve. “We’re setting the conditions for our partner forces to continue bringing stability to the region.”
