A rocket attack against the K1 military base in the Kirkuk region of Iraq has resulted in the death of an American contractor, as well as several wounded US troops.
The attack took place on Friday at approximately 7:20 p.m. local time. At least two Iraqi policemen died in the attack as well. Some reports indicated that 10 rockets impacted the base that houses US SOF troops, conventional US combat soldiers, and elite Kurdish forces.
So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Interestingly, a Military Times article suggested the rocket attack was most likely carried out by Iranian-backed proxy militias, while an article by Rudaw, a Kurdish news source, suggested a higher likelihood of the attacks being the responsibility of resurgent ISIS cells in the area.
The following video shows Iranian-led Popular Mobilization Forces (PMU) launching various rocket types during anti ISIS operations.
