An Israeli fighter jet pilot and navigator got an unpleasant surprise when the cockpit lid unexpectedly ripped off of their F-15 while cruising at 30,000 feet.
The warplane was conducting a routine training mission on Jan. 2, 2019 over central Israel when the malfunction occurred. The crew was immediately subjected to an -49 degree Fahrenheit icy blast and incredible pressure.
The Israeli Defense Forces released an audio recording of the incident to Haaretz, and it was then uploaded to Youtube. On the intense recording you can hear the navigator in near panic, and yet the pilot remains incredibly calm as he gains clearance for an emergency landing at the nearest air strip.
The pair of aviators were able to safely land the aircraft without further incident. Israeli Air Force commander, Amikam Norkin, halted further flights of all F-15s until an investigation could be completed.
