A Taliban attack initiated by a truck bomb and followed up with a ground assault targeted a British compound on the outskirts of Kabul on 28 November, resulting in 10 deaths and several wounded persons.
The attack hit a compound operated by British defense contracting company G4S. One of the slain Britons was Luke Griffon, 33, a decorated infantry combat veteran of OIF and OEF.
Griffon is said to have been killed in the ensuing firefight following the blast. He leaves behind a wife and young son.
Five other Britons were wounded in the attack as well. The suicide truck bomb is said to have left a 15-foot crater.
The official statement from G4S reads: “It is with great sadness that we can confirm that five of our employees were killed and 32 were injured, five of them seriously, in an unprovoked, criminal attack on one of our compounds in Kabul.”
