It was reported on Sunday that several American citizens went missing in Baghdad, Iraq. The Department of State has said it is working in conjunction with Iraqi authorities to find the missing persons, but has not released any tangible information yet.
State Department spokesperson John Kirby told FOX news in a brief interview “The safety and security of American citizens overseas is our highest priority. We are working with the full cooperation of the Iraqi authorities to locate and recover the individuals. Due to privacy considerations, I have nothing further.”
In a separate report coming from the AFP, an Iraqi police colonel stated under the condition of anonymity, that three Americans and a translator were kidnapped by militia-men in southern Baghdad. He was unsure of who those militia-men may have been representing.
This incident occurs in a week that has seen a spike in unrest near the Iraqi capital city of Baghdad.
