A Russian SU-24 was shot down by Turkish F-16s, or surface-to-air missiles today, as it flew into Turkish airspace.
Today a very volatile situation has erupted, as Turkish F-16s shot down a Russian SU-24 operating out of Syria. The Turkish Government is claiming the jet was in their airspace, and the Russian Government is claiming that it wasn’t. A game of he said, she said has exploded. Below you will see the video of the SU-24 in question crashing to the ground after a still unknown type of missile was fired at it.
There is a lot of confusion surrounding the situation as of right now. Early reports are still claiming that the SU-24 was shot down by Turkish F-16s, however other reports are claiming the aircraft was downed by surface-to-air missiles.
The pilots allegedly ejected from the craft before it’s crash, and were pictured parachuting to the ground. Currently Russia has helicopters searching for the pilots, who should currently be evading capture. Other media outlets within Turkey, however have shown video of one of the alleged pilots on the ground dead, surrounded by Islamic extremists.
One thing is most definitely certain, as this situation continues to develop. Turkish-Russian relations have officially just hit an all time low. Putin was quoted as saying “We have long been recording the movement of a large amount of oil and petroleum products to Turkey from Isis-occupied territories. This explains the significant funding the terrorists are receiving. Now they are stabbing us in the back by hitting our planes that are fighting terrorism.” in an official statement to the media.
As more media coverage of the incident is released, we will keep this post updated.
