A brave Russian soldier’s last seconds are filmed as he faces down a rapidly approaching Islamic State car bomb during one of the battles for Palmyra.
As the weaponized enemy vehicle closes the distance, the panicked Syrian troops abandon their fighting positions, but it’s not like their hysterical firing was anywhere near accurate or effective to begin with.
The shaky cameraman also places distance between himself and the incoming suicide vehicle borne improvised explosive device (SVBIED), and just before the explosion we can still see the brave Russian troop standing steadfast, engaging the deadly threat.
Unfortunately, he is unable to make his shots count. The fiery and powerful blast erupts, consuming in its radius the nearby main battle tank and the truck the Russian troop was using for cover.
In the footage, what appears to be a contorted human body is launched toward the cameraman, it is unclear if it is that of the Russian soldier, a Syrian troop, or the Islamist psychopath.
Based on the magnitude of the blast, and the close proximity to the soldier, it is nearly certain that he perished in the event.
