A combined raid carried out by BRAS, an alliance of Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF), Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), Baloch Republican Guard (BRG) and Baloch Republican Army (BRA), and uploaded to social media by BLF commander Yasir Baloch, shows the capture and destruction of a Pakistani Army forward operating base in Dashtt on Feb. 18, 2020.
From the video we can see what appears to be a decently placed, but poorly defended multi-position outpost. The lower base camp is surrounded by smaller observation posts that would serve as early warning and fighting positions. However, those observation posts must be manned with trained, watchful troops to be effective.
The Baloch fighters pour heavy small arms and RPG fire onto the enemy positions to keep their foes’ heads down while assault elements maneuver into position. Once the attackers reach the outposts, they move from one position to another, clearing and neutralizing enemy forces.
A platoon of Pakistani troops move in with a couple pickup trucks of reinforcements, but the video is presented in a manner to make it appear that those soldiers were pinned down by sniper fire, and therefore couldn’t effectively help their besieged brethren.
The video ends with the insurgents torching the dwellings, looting the weapons and equipment, and showing off dead government troops. This footage differs from “normal” Baloch operation videos, which tend to target convoys in linear and L-shaped ambushes, rather than direct action raids against fortified static fighting positions.
